In the Shade of the Trees

It was on a chilly December morning in the misty hills of Wayanad that Devika made her decision. As her colleagues and friends headed home to their families for the holidays, the silence inside her flat felt suffocating. It wasn't a overwhelming, despairing kind of loneliness, but rather a quiet, persistent reminder that she had no one special in her life. To escape the gloom of her empty apartment, she decided to take a walk through the quiet park bordering the nearby forest reserve.
Deep in thought, Devika wandered further into a secluded section where thick trees cast cool shadows over the path. The area was completely deserted. Suddenly, the crunch of footsteps behind her broke the silence. Turning around, she saw a young man approaching. The glint in his eyes and his tense posture immediately signaled that this was no simple mugging. Before she could scream or run, he attacked. Covered in blood and losing strength, her consciousness faded into the quiet forest floor.
Late that afternoon, a young man named Ryan was walking his dog through the park when he spotted a figure lying motionless among the bushes. Shaken by the sight, he immediately dialed emergency services for help. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, he knelt beside her, gently reassuring her: "Hang in there, help is on the way..."
Devika spent weeks in the hospital recovering from her severe injuries. Ryan, the stranger who had saved her life, became a regular visitor. As two people who understood the weight of solitude, they formed a deep bond over shared conversations and mutual understanding. Knowing how terrified she was of returning to her empty flat alone, Ryan offered a comforting presence and a steady pillar of support.
Three Years Later:
On a bright Sunday morning, Ryan and Devika strolled together through a sunny city park. Pushing a stroller where their six-month-old daughter, Nila, slept peacefully, they talked about their plans for the weekend.
The attacker had been sentenced to a lengthy prison term shortly after the incident, where he later passed away.
On that secluded forest trail years ago, Devika had lost her peace of mind to a nightmare; in return, she found a life-long partnership and a family she would never be alone in again.
