Love over Coffee english short stories

Azure Whispers
A rain-washed Saturday morning in the misty hills of Munnar. Carrying a roll of engineering blueprints, Athira stepped into The Teahouse, a cozy little glass-walled café tucked beside the tea gardens. Having finally wrapped up her final-year project, she felt an overwhelming sense of relief.
"One black coffee, please," she ordered at the counter.
"And a strong cardamom tea for me," said a smooth, warm voice right behind her.
She turned around involuntarily. Standing there was a young man with deep amber eyes and a quiet, striking charm.
Trying not to stare, she grabbed her coffee cup and spun around too quickly. Her arm brushed against the large drawing portfolio he was holding. The sheets slipped from his hands and splashed right into a puddle near the entrance.
"Oh no! I am so, so sorry!" Athira gasped, her face flushing crimson.
He picked up the damp sheets, offering a reassuring smile. "Don't worry about it. It’s digital animation—I have the backup on my laptop. But I think your coffee took the brunt of the fall on your sneakers!"
Overwhelmed by embarrassment, she mumbled a quick apology and hurried out into the cool morning air.
The following weeks felt entirely different. She began spotting him everywhere—at the old town bookstore, near the rain-soaked bus stop, and across the street. Each encounter was marked by a lingering look and a hesitant exchange of warm smiles. Without realizing it, a quiet romance had begun to bloom in her thoughts.
Then came a Tuesday afternoon that changed everything.
While walking past the café, she saw him sitting near the window, sharing an animated conversation and laughing heartfully with a stunning girl. Athira felt a sudden sharp tug in her chest.
He's already taken... I was just dreaming up a foolish fantasy, she told herself.
From that day on, she deliberately avoided his gaze whenever their paths crossed, throwing herself entirely into her studies to hide the sting of heartbreak.
Months flew by, and graduation day arrived. It was time for Athira to pack her bags and leave the hill town for good. Yet, the persistent ache of unresolved feelings refused to fade. Knowing she would regret it forever if she stayed silent, she decided to take one last gamble.
She left a folded note with the barista at the café to pass along to him:
> "I’ll be at the corner table of the café today at 5 PM. If you ever felt that spark too, come say goodbye. — Athira"
>
5:00 PM.
The golden twilight over the valley slowly gave way to an ink-blue evening sky. Athira sat alone by the glass window, watching the clock tick away. 5:30... 6:00 PM. No sign of him.
How naive of me, she thought, letting out a soft, dry laugh. He was never meant for me.
Brushing away a stray tear, she stood up to leave, deciding to grab one final hot drink before leaving the town forever.
"One strong cardamom tea, please," she requested at the counter.
"And a black coffee for me..." a familiar voice chimed from behind.
Her heart leaped. She turned around.
There he stood, amber eyes crinkling with a subtle, breathless smile.
"Sorry I’m late, Athira. I’m Vikram," he said, holding out his hand. "And before you ask—the girl you saw me with last month was my elder sister, who was visiting from Bangalore."
As the evening drizzle began to patter gently against the glass, they sat down together—lost in a conversation that felt like it was only just beginning.
