Secrets in the Storm |
“Yes, and we have plenty of time to celebrate,” Anjali said with a soft smile as she carried the dinner plates toward the kitchen. She looked breathtaking in her red saree. Every lingering thought of work stress and daily fatigue instantly vanished from Suraj’s mind.
As he finished his meal, she stepped up behind him, gently wrapping her arms around his neck and chest, and whispered softly into his ear, "I want to try something a little adventurous tonight."
With a subtle nod, she led him down the hallway.
"Looks like a storm is brewing outside," Suraj remarked, peering through the passage window at the darkening sky and swaying trees.
"Mm-hm," she agreed, pushing open the bedroom door. The door clicked shut behind them, sealing out the rest of the house.
As heavy raindrops began to rattle against the glass panes, she walked over to an old wooden chest in the corner, unlocked it, and drew out an intricate brass locket suspended from a heavy iron chain.
"The final clue to your family's long-lost ancestral village map is tucked inside this," she said, placing the locket into his palms. "No phone calls, no city noise tonight—just the storm outside and the two of us finally uncovering this secret together."
With the wind howling against the shutters and a single warm lamp casting soft shadows, they sat side by side, unrolling the weathered parchment and turning a stormy night into the beginning of an unforgettable journey.
