First Love Letter love story

The First Lines on Wet Sand

"Grandma... can we see the ring? Is this the same ring Grandfather gave you back then?"
All the grandchildren gathered around Kalyani as she sat on the stone bench under the jasmine tree. She smiled softly, looking down at the worn silver band on her finger.
"Of course it is," Madhavan said, leaning on his walking stick as he stepped onto the porch. "That is the only gift I ever gave to the most wonderful woman in my life." Kalyani’s cheeks flushed a gentle pink, just as they used to, as her mind drifted back decades into the past.
Years Earlier...
It was a quiet coastal retreat in Alleppey. Madhavan and Kalyani had taken a much-needed break from the noise of the city, their hectic work schedules, and constant notifications. Though they shared a deep, unspoken affection for each other, they had established a clear agreement before setting off:
They would respect each other's privacy by staying in separate rooms.
Neither would interfere with the other’s freedom or personal choices.
Both were free to explore places independently whenever they wished.
Despite these rules, every time they stepped out, they naturally ended up walking side by side.
One evening, as a gentle wave washed away a pattern Kalyani had drawn on the wet sand, she playfully scolded the ocean like a child. Turning around quickly to see if Madhavan had caught her being silly, she found him absorbed in his notebook as usual. "Even if the world were ending, he wouldn't stop writing," she thought with a quiet laugh.
The next morning, she woke up to the rich aroma of fresh coffee placed on her bedside table. Bringing her morning coffee and discussing their plans for the day was his daily routine. But that morning, Madhavan said, "I have a few errands to run alone this morning. Meet me at two in the afternoon at that thatched beach hut we saw yesterday."
At two o'clock, Kalyani arrived at the hut. Madhavan wasn't there yet, but the space had been decorated with her favorite white jasmine flowers, filling the air with their sweet scent. On the wooden coffee table lay a large envelope addressed to her: "Just for you..."
She sat down and opened the envelope. Inside were several pages featuring candid photographs of her, along with a long, handwritten letter in his neat script:
“Dear Kalyani,
Since I lacked the courage to say this out loud, I am doing what I do best—putting it into words. Do you know what the best part of my day is? It’s coming into your room every morning with coffee and seeing your face looking so peaceful while you sleep.
The other day, when you were scolding the waves and biting your tongue when you thought no one was looking, I couldn't help but adore how unapologetically yourself you were. Seeing that sweet smile on your face whenever you close your eyes to catch the ocean breeze makes me want to protect that joy for the rest of my life.
You understand my quiet fears better than anyone ever has. I want to spend my life learning to be as free and genuine as you are. Will you allow me to hold your hand through it all?”
As tears filled her eyes, she looked up to find Madhavan kneeling before her, holding out the silver ring.
